Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is Revealed

Ubisoft has finally confirmed what the rumours have been whispering for months: Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is getting the full modern treatment in the form of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.

Hardly the best kept secret in the world. Having leaked a day or two before the trailer, and having being openly discussed as an upcoming release all over the place. Regardless, we’re excited, here at Dying Art Media!

The reveal trailer, which dropped on 23rd April 2026, wastes no time leaning into the nostalgia of the 2013 classic while showcasing a staggering visual overhaul.

We’re talking about a complete rebuild of the Caribbean. From the dense jungles of Tulum to the salt-stained streets of Havana. All powered by the latest iteration of the Anvil engine.

Here’s a look at what’s to come.

What’s New in Black Flag Resync?

While the original Black Flag is widely considered one of the best in the series, it was a “cross-gen” title stuck between the PS3 and PS4 eras.

Black Flag Resynced aims to break those shackles. Here’s the breakdown of what Ubisoft is promising:

Seamless Sailing: The transition between land and sea is now completely seamless, with zero loading screens when docking at major ports or boarding enemy vessels.

Naval Combat 2.0: Expect more “weight” to the Jackdaw’s movement. Ubisoft has integrated the advanced water physics seen in Skull and Bones, making every wave and storm a genuine tactical factor in combat.

New ways for Edward Kenway to engage: Kenway can recruit three new officers to fight and sail alongside him. These include Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced newcomers Lucy Baldwin, Tobias “Deadman” Smith, and The Padre.

Each officer has their own special abilities and unique narrative questline that reveals their backstory, Ubisoft says. Developer Ubisoft Singapore teased one of those new abilities on Thursday: Deadman will give the Jackdaw an unlockable double-shot for the ship’s broadside weapons.

The Jackdaw: The Jackdaw is now a home for pets. Kenway can have a cat or monkey companion on board. Much like we like to have in Sea of Thieves.

On land combat: The combat system has also been updated. Kenway will be able to dual-wield pistols, swords, and hidden blades, and Ubisoft is adding an updated parry system with “perfect parries.” Black Flag Resynced will also feature “smooth and improved parkour moves” for traversing environments, and Kenway can now stealth-crouch freely.

And for any veteran Black Flag players who wince at the thought of desynchronization, Ubisoft says it has revamped the game’s tailing and eavesdropping missions to be less painful.

Expanded Story: The “Resynced” subtitle refers to new Animus memories that weren’t in the original game. This includes expanded missions for Adéwalé and more depth regarding Edward’s eventual return to London.

Modern Features: 4K/60fps performance on consoles, full Ray Tracing for those Caribbean sunsets, and a modernized parkour system that feels closer to Assassin’s Creed Unity.

It all seems pretty standard in terms of what we would expect in 2026. Let’s not forget that Assassin’s Creed Blag Flag isn’t a modern game. So this is all a welcome change, and chance to get stuck into the game.

Even better. It’s a potential on-ramp for new players looking at the more traditional style of Assassin’s Creed games. Why not start with one of the most critically acclaimed?

The Release Date

The best news is that we won’t have to wait an eternity to set sail again. Ubisoft confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is scheduled to launch on 9th July, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

For those looking to dive back into the Golden Age of Piracy, pre-orders are live now, including a “Legendary Pirate Edition” that comes with a physical map of the Caribbean and a statuette of Edward Kenway at the helm.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

It feels like we’re finally going to be able to redeem ourselves. Having never actually finished Assassin’s Creed Black Flag initially, it’s always been a source of shame. Being fans of the series and having played and finished the rest of the core series, no we can mop it up.

Better still, it’s the classic Assassin’s Creed gameplay that we all loved.

Whilst we enjoy the modern RPG style games (Origins is a masterpiece). The classics are fondly remembered for good reason.

Maybe Skull and Bones wasn’t a waste of resource, if Ubisoft can pull something special out of the bag with Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.
