Gamescom Opening Night Live has delivered one of the biggest gaming announcements of the year for Witcher 3 fans.
Studio CD Projekt Red has officially revealed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, launching on 29 September 2026.
Alongside the modernised release, developers gave fans a tantalising first look at a brand-new story expansion, Songs of the Past, scheduled to arrive in 2027.
The Witcher 3 Remastered
The upcoming remastered edition promises a comprehensive overhaul of Geralt of Rivia’s legendary 2015 adventure.
Existing owners of the game on qualifying platforms will receive the remastered version as a free upgrade across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
In addition to traditional console and PC releases, CD Projekt Red is expanding the game’s reach to new platforms.
A native version of The Witcher 3 Remastered will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on 29 September, with pre-orders opening immediately.
Furthermore, a new strategic partnership with Blizzard Entertainment brings the game to Battle.net on the very same day.
Players purchasing the title via Battle.net will unlock a special Geralt-inspired skin in Diablo 4, with additional crossover details set to be me revealed at BlizzCon in September.
What’s New in The Witcher 3: Remastered?
CD Projekt Red and co-development studio Yigsoft are reworking core systems to modernise the experience.
Combat is set to feel sharper thanks to rebalanced encounter pacing, refreshed animations, and brutal new enemy finishers. Geralt’s arsenal of Witcher Signs boasts completely redesigned visual effects, making spells feel far more impactful during skirmishes. The Witcher 3 Remastered isn’t just a glossy coating!
Monster behaviours have undergone a complete overhaul to test veteran Witchers, forcing players to react to unpredictable enemy tactics.
To balance the scales, Geralt gains access to a fully revamped skill tree that allows for far more flexible character builds, complemented by a long-requested transmogification system so players can preserve their favourite armour aesthetics without sacrificing combat stats.
Traversal and exploration also benefit from heavy refinement. Roach’s mount handling has been overhauled to eliminate clunky pathfinding, while general foot movement feels significantly more responsive across terrain.
For virtual photographers, an expanded photo mode delivers deep camera controls, custom poses, and lighting adjustments to capture Continent landscapes. The Witcher 3 Remastered is set to look even better than the beautiful core game, so it’s going to a great time to get stuck into photo mode!!
Free Expansions and Platform Additions
In an immediate treat for RPG enthusiasts, CD Projekt Red announced that all current owners of The Witcher 3 can access the acclaimed Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions for free starting today.
The move offers new and returning players the perfect opportunity to experience the classic expansions ahead of September’s The Witcher 3 Remastered release.
Beyond performance boosts on current hardware, the team has tailored the native Nintendo Switch 2 edition specifically for Nintendo’s new handheld capabilities. Meanwhile, PC players using Blizzard’s Battle.net launcher get seamless integration alongside the exclusive Diablo 4 crossover incentives.
Journeying to Letten in Songs of the Past
While The Witcher 3 Remastered arrives next month, the teaser for Songs of the Past offers a glimpse into Geralt’s future.
Co-developed in collaboration with Polish studio Fool’s Theory—a team staffed by several Witcher 3 veterans—the expansion introduces a brand-new region named Letten.
On the surface, Letten appears to be an idyllic land steeped in rural tradition, bountiful harvests, and folklore. However, beneath its peaceful exterior lies a sinister force that Geralt must confront using new equipment, including a versatile chain weapon designed for sweeping crowd control.
Songs of the Past is set for release in 2027 as a paid expansion across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, and is available to wishlist now on select digital storefronts.

Holy cow, The Witcher 3 is the gift that just keeps on giving. One of the best games ever made, improved-upon regularly since release, now remastered for free!
There’s only so many times that we can recommend that you give it a go, and each time feels like the game has hit a peak.
Now The Witcher 3 Remastered looks like it might actually be the apex for the game, after over 10 years. Followed by a new expansion, with The Witcher 4 to come in due course.
It’s quite a good time to be a Geralt fan, and now might finally be the time to choose some different romance options…..
