Ok, at Dying Art Media, we love reviewing things. Games, coffee, tech, anime, you name it. We love a review, and we like to be honest, frank and sometimes over-board on stuff if we love it.
Having said that, review scores are a really weird thing. The content of a review is way more important than a numerical score. And whilst we appreciate that there’s benefits to getting that “too long, don’t read” view (we’ll work on that, as well). The core of Dying Art Media is the written word, and it’s our intention to stick with that as the guiding principle.
Review scoring
So how do we review and how do we give you a glance at the general sentiment?
Scores are pointless, and a horrible way for industries to attach payments and bonuses to aggregator sites like Metacritic etc. We’re not about that. But, we do want to ensure it’s clear that a game, or anything else gets the seal of approval, or something to the contrary.
Thankfully, we get to have a bit of fun with it too. Using our new Dying Art Media acronym.
Moving forwards, reviews will end with an assessment. A badge to denote how we feel about things overall. No scores, no points, no stars. We’ll have 3 different ratings.
- DAM that’s a shame
- DAM that’s good
- DAM that’s excellent
Reviews aren’t about damaging reputations, or about being mean. They’re about honesty and providing genuine feedback.
Let’s not forget that we’re essentially putting the work and livelihoods of individuals under the microscope. The least we can do is be reasonable. Dying Art Media isn’t here to be mean. It’s here to be open and to steer people in the right direction.

Reviews
All reviews are subjective, too. Which is what makes scoring such a toxic measure. Anyone can have preferences, dislikes and a variety of experiences. There’s no meaningful, guaranteed way that anything can be wholly objective.
The best we can do at Dying Art Media is be candid. Share our experiences. Talk about the good, the bad and the ugly and make sure every facet of something is discussed to the best of our ability.
Out reviews range from multi-part pieces, covering games as we go through them, to “Quick Look” reviews based off thoughts and feelings after relatively short time with things. There are also standard one-off reviews, which are largely used for coffee, tech, and other bits where we cover everything in one go.
It isn’t perfect, and we’re always open to feedback. But it is honest, and it is fair.
Dying Art Media
We only review things we care about, and then we show how much we care by investing our time and effort into a clear and frank review process. Not everything that you love, will be loved by us, and vice-versa. That’s absolutely fine. It’s the beauty of reviews and having many many sources to go to.
Make sure to find reviewers that challenge your perception on things. Perhaps that make arguments against things that you love. Don’t take it personally when people have different opinions, it’s all just opinion.
Dying Art Media is committed to giving a fair shot to anything that comes our way, and to writing about it first and foremost.
Just take a few minuts of your day to get some insight, and then go and make up your own mind. We’re just here to help steer and guide.
Trust us, or don’t. That’s your perogative, and we absolutely support that. We can only do what we thing is the right thing to do, and unless that changes. This is our review ethos.
