This is something new that’s never even occurred to us before. But as things have transpired, we have a lot of pirate-related content in July. Plus with the news about The One Piece and the pending release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake, everything has all just fallen into place.
It gives us a bit of focus in a time where trying to establish the new site and chasing every game that comes our way. Pirates are a great way to do that but have a bit more discipline about it at the same time.
As such. July 2026 is officially Pirate Month at dyingartmedia.com

Pirate Month
So what’s the crack? How have we come to the ridiculous notion that we can build a whole month around one theme? Why Pirates?
Easy! With the latest updates in Sea of Thieves, a planned playthrough of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii and picking up Skull and Bones for £2.50 in the Steam Sale. There’s a lot of gaming to be done and it’s all coincidentally Pirate-based.
Then we get to tie-in some anime with One Piece, and we’re looking for some pirate-themed Graphic Novels, too.
We have some Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, as well, which we’ll tie-in with it somehow. After a month of solid daily posting, we’re slowing it down, but keeping active and maintaining a theme. No idea if it’ll work out, but we have to try these things.

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
This came up all on it’s own. After finishing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and playing it at the same time as a friend. We wanted a new game to play through and talk about. So we landed on this, bought it in sales and set a start time of July.
Perfect timing! Although we should probably go back and finish the excellent Yakuza: Like a Dragon at some point.
So there will be reviews, guides, opinions. Pirate-themed JRPG? This should be interesting!

Skull and Bones
Super-interesting with this one. Being curious be stand-offish about it since day one. We’ve never seen the appeal. But we do love an Ubisoft game, and we do love a pirate game.
There’s no way this competes with Sea of Thieves, but it’s time to give it a go. It was cheap enough, and there’s so much scope for things to do and write about. It felt like now was the time.
Who knows how this will go? Maybe we drop off after an hour. Maybe we want to make it our daily play? It’s going to be fun to see, at the very least.

Sea of Thieves
After the Keys to the Seas update recently came out. Our curiosity for the state of the game and the new tools in it, has increased massively.
Always keeping it on the horizon as we play through other bits and write about different things. Now is the time to go back to being a Pirate Legend, and see how Rare’s PvPvE game is holding up.
Plus, we really just want to play with the new photo tools for some of those sunsets. Can we get the crew into our own private instance, finally?
We’ll see this month.

Everything else
We’ll be putting some effort in to make sure we have a pirate-lean on anything that comes through. But there may be news we need to get up that scupper it. We just don’t know.
There’s unlikely to be updates for a seven seas Ocarina of Time Remake, or GTA VI shanty mode. So there will be some exceptions. But if we can make it pirate adjacent in some way, you can be assured we’ll do our best to make it fit. Even when it’s questionable.
Let us know if there’s anything pirate-themed you want us to cover this month, in the comments!
