If you thought the summer heat was intense, Rare is turning up the temperature on the High Seas. June 2026 is shaping up to be one of the biggest months in Sea of Thieves history, marked by the arrival of Season 20 and a highly anticipated new sandbox feature that completely changes how we play.
Whether you are looking to grind out the final days of Season 19 or rewrite the rules of the ocean entirely, this month has something massive in store for every kind of pirate.
Here is a look at what is hitting the waves over the next few weeks, broken down into the major beats you need to know.

The Finale of Season 19
As Act 3 of Season 19 wraps up, Rare is giving players a massive progression boost to finish their Plunder Passes.
The Gold & Glory Weekend kicks off early in the month, bringing a huge surge to Gold, Reputation, Allegiance, Guild Reputation, and Seasonal Renown.
If you have been slacking on your levels, this is your ultimate window to catch up before the slate is wiped clean.
It’s a little too late in the season for us to start and get caught up, but the sea calls, and the rest of the month is looking mighty fine.

The Keys to the Seas Soundtrack Drop
To get everyone into the right headspace for the massive changes ahead, the official theme song for the upcoming update is dropping on all major music streaming platforms.
Titled “Keys to the Seas,” this title screen track sets the musical stage for a more creative, open-ended era of piracy. It is a nice little teaser to listen to while you wait for the main event.
Sea of Thieves has always had stellar music, and Keys to the Seas will likely be no exception. So we’re looking forward to hearing it soon.
Bilge Rats Weekender and Outpost Celebrations
The Bilge Rats are stepping back into the spotlight for another weekend event cycle.
Expect time-limited Challenges, special Voyages, and the return of Dark Fortress Raids.
Outposts will also be hosting firework displays to mark the occasion. If you want to stock up on Doubloons, make sure to chat with Larinna as soon as the weekend kicks off to grab the full schedule.

Season 20 Launches with Custom Seas
This is the absolute headline act of the month and possibly the year for Sea of Thieves.
Season 20 is officially launching, and it brings the highly anticipated Custom Seas feature set.
For the first time ever, players are getting administrative control over the game sandbox. Custom Seas will allow crews to spawn creatures, fast travel, set up custom scoreboards, and build completely unique game modes.
Rare is also changing how they deliver content this time around. Moving away from the recent three-Act format, Season 20 is dropping all its core tools simultaneously on launch day alongside a fresh set of Deeds.
It also includes new Free Camera tools, which is going to be a massive win for virtual photographers and content creators looking to capture the perfect cinematic shot.
This is such a significant update, and from what we can tell, it’s free. No server rental or anything like that, which was previously speculated. Sea of Thieves, with a lobby of friends and custom challenges? Sign us up!!
Earn Loot with Post-Update Twitch Drops
Tuning into any participating Sea of Thieves streamer after the update goes live will yield some new rewards.
Just a quick thirty minutes of watch time nets you a casual seventy-five thousand gold. If you stick around longer, you can unlock a brand new emote, a stylish jacket, cannon cosmetics, a fresh Title, and the exclusive Indigo Tides Cutlass to show off on your ship.

Celebrating Five Years of A Pirate’s Life
It has somehow been five years since Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean crossed over into the Sea of Thieves.
To celebrate this milestone, Rare is giving players a great reason to revisit the crossover content. Completing any of the five A Pirate’s Life Tall Tales between late June and the end of Season 20 will unlock a brand new commemorative weapon known as the Sea King’s Cutlass.
Maybe it’s time we finish some of these Tall Tales? Sea of Thieves did a great job with them, but they always felt superfluous to the overall experience. But that’s a bad take.
The Pirate Emporium Bumper Bounty Sale
If you have been sitting on a hoard of Ancient Coins, you will want to wait until the final week of June to spend them.
The Pirate Emporium is slashing prices across almost its entire stock. Ship sets, weapons, emotes, and clothing will see steep discounts, only excluding brand-new arrivals or recently rotated stock.
Now’s the time to give your pirate a summer makeover.

Closing the Month with Season 20 Community Weekend
We close out June with the traditional Community Weekend celebration.
You can expect the usual Community Emissary Grade multipliers, Pop-Up Plunder drops, exclusive goals, and in-game picture walls to share with your crew.
Just logging in and setting sail during the event secures you the Season 20 Community Weekend Flag and the Hitchhike Emote.
Sea of Thieves
June is a massive transition point for Sea of Thieves.
The shift to a unified season launch format and the introduction of Custom Seas suggests Rare is leaning heavily into player freedom and community-driven content for the summer.
Now we can get all 6 of the VasDown crew in one session, it might be a game-changer! That and community events for the likes of RaffledUP, this site and even Indie-cent Exposure.
Sea of Thieves might be getting the jolt that it needs to get that heart properly beating again. This is the right move and approach to keeping the game going for much longer.
