Fresh off the back of finishing the excellent Halo: Campaign Evolved. Our hunger for Halo has only grown. Particularly playing it co-op with brothers, which is a real shot of nostalgia and some of the best gaming fun we’ve had in a while. So…..of course we turn to The Master Chief Collection.
It’s got everything we need, on paper, to keep the buzz going for a long time. And whilst we’ve toyed with it on and off over the years, it feels like now is the time to really get stuck-in.

The Master Chief Collection
Halo: The Master Chief Collection stands as one of the most remarkable redemption stories in interactive entertainment.
What began as a troubled launch over a decade ago has been meticulously transformed into an unmatched archival triumph, housing six distinct legendary campaigns and their sprawling multiplayer suites under a single cohesive interface.
In 2026, the collection represents the definitive way to experience the golden age of first-person shooters, offering a staggering depth of content that easily outshines modern, single-release alternatives.
Just playing Halo Reach on an ultra-wide monitor is something we’d never experienced until this week. Now we’re peeling-back more and more of that goodness.
Technical Excellence
The technical foundation of the Master Chief Collection is robust, benefiting from years of dedicated post-launch support, performance tuning, and quality-of-life enhancements.
Modern PC and current-generation console players enjoy pristine frame rates, high refresh rate support, ultra-wide display compatibility, and customisable field-of-view sliders across every title.
The seamless toggling between original audio-visual presentations and remastered assets in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and Halo 2: Anniversary remains an extraordinary feature, preserving gaming history while honouring contemporary visual expectations.
Living in the past, presently, has never felt so easy and so good. The Master Chief Collection delivers these games as you remember them, and despite those rose-tinted glasses, they do not disappoint.

Unrivalled Campaigns
Spanning the journeys of Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo Reach, and Halo 4, the anthology delivers a sci-fi narrative arc unmatched in scope. The Master Chief Collection has everything apart from Halo 5 (something we would love to see get added one day!) and Halo Infinite. It’s crazy. Particularly when it regularly comes up in the Steam sales for £9.99. The value in terms of quantity of content is great, but the quality is there, as well.
We can seamlessly jump between classic campaigns, construct cross-game mission playlists, or dive into co-operative play throughs with friends.
From the atmospheric noir survival of New Mombasa in ODST to the tragic heroism on Reach, the combat sandbox mechanics retain their visceral satisfaction and tactical intelligence, proving that classic sandbox design stands the test of time.
It’s fun to re-live the great series, anyway, but being able to mix it up and just pick from one launcher, is a joy.
Comprehensive Multiplayer, Forge, and Community Tools
Beyond single-player narrative, the Master Chief Collection provides a vibrant, cross-platform multiplayer environment featuring over one hundred competitive maps, Firefight horde modes, and Forge creation tools.
Matchmaking filters allow players to tailor their search down to specific game engines and game types, while the Custom Games Browser ensures casual party modes like Griffball and Infection remain readily available. Complemented by built-in mod support and unlocked frame rates, community creators continue to keep the experience fresh and engaging.
All of that Halo 3 online play from back in the day, still exists in the Master Chief Collection. Firefight is there letting us get together and just go to town on The Covenant and The Flood. You have so many choices to

Overall
As a total package, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is an essential addition to any gaming library.
It successfully bridges generations of gaming, delivering thousands of hours of high-calibre gameplay at exceptional value.
Whether revisiting nostalgia or discovering Master Chief’s journey for the first time, this collection remains a golden benchmark for video game preservation and collection design. We love it, and knowing how well it works on the Steam Deck means we get to play our favourites, anywhere.
