A Q&A with Castyr

Castyr

Recently I’ve had the pleasure of chatting with the team at Castyr about their new platform, and started to take a look at it myself as a new home for Dying Art Media streaming.

Whilst we’ve been established on Twitch for a while, being a teeny tiny fish in a massive ocean, makes growth hard. Plus, Twitch and their business practices/treatment of staff are questionable. So looking for an alternative is always in view.

I came a cross Castyr by chance on Bluesky, and decided to reach out and learn about the platform. The guys there have been incredibly communicative and clearly passionate about their platform.

Whilst we’ll do a review of Castyr in good time. I took the opportunity to get to know a bit more about the platform and the team, by firing some questions over to them. Which they very kindly responded to.

So here’s out Q&A of the Castyr team!

1. Describe Castyr to those that have never heard of it before.

Castyr is a live streaming platform that lets creators broadcast to audiences in real time. Beyond the basics, it includes a level-up system and achievements to reward engagement, daily login awards to keep people coming back, friend messaging for community connection, and all the core streaming features you’d expect. It’s designed to build a social experience around live content, not just the broadcast itself.

2. What does Castyr bring to the table that other platforms don’t?

Castyr brings a gamified community experience with its level-up system, achievements, and daily login awards that reward consistent engagement, combined with integrated friend messaging that fosters real social connection between users. It’s designed to keep people coming back and interacting, not just passively watching streams.

3. Where are you based and how big is the Castyr team?

Castyr is based in the UK with a core team of two active developers, along with a few voluntary moderators helping keep the community running smoothly.

4. What does your development and feature pipeline look like? What features can users expect to see popping up over the next few months?

Over the coming months, Castyr is rolling out a VOD system so viewers can rewatch, comment, like, and share past streams. We’re expanding the achievement system with deeper XP progression, and introducing Sparks, a built-in currency that’ll open up new ways for the community to engage and support creators. There’s more on the horizon as well.

5. What is your favourite game of all time?

My favourite game of all time is tricky because I don’t really play many games, honestly. The main one I do play is Warframe, which is free to play on Steam. I jump into it in my spare time when I’m not focused on development work.

6. What games are you looking forward to releasing this year?

Our focus is entirely on the live content and streaming platform itself with Castyr. But GTA VI is our most anticipated of 2026.

7. What makes a good stream, in your eyes?

A good stream, in my view, comes down to authentic engagement between the creator and their audience. It’s when someone’s genuinely passionate about what they’re doing, whether that’s gaming, creating, or just connecting with people, and they’re actively interacting with their viewers in real time. The best streams feel like a conversation, not a broadcast—where people feel like they’re part of something, not just watching from the sidelines.

8. How can people support Castyr and see it grow?

How people can support Castyr and help it grow is by signing up and getting involved in the community. Once live streaming launches, they can start broadcasting themselves and help each other grow through collaboration and cross-promotion. They can also contribute through donations since we’re community funded. Beyond that, spreading the word and inviting friends to join the platform is huge—word of mouth and organic growth from engaged users is what’ll really push Castyr forward.

9. How does Castyr support creators and streamers using the platform?

Castyr supports creators and streamers through a range of built-in features designed to boost engagement and retention. The level-up system and achievements give streamers goals to work towards and showcase progress to their audience. Daily login awards keep the community coming back regularly. The integrated friend messaging feature helps streamers build deeper connections with their viewers. We’re also rolling out a VOD system so creators can extend the life of their content beyond live broadcasts, and the upcoming Sparks currency will give viewers a direct way to support and tip streamers they love. It’s all designed to help creators grow their audience and build sustainable communities.

10. Anything you would like to add?

At our core, Castyr is community focused. We actively engage with our community to build the platform that people actually want. Users can request features and share feedback constantly, and we’re always listening. If a feature is buildable, we’ll give it a try and see how people respond to it on the platform. That feedback loop drives what we build next.

Castyr

It’s all looking good for Castyr, and it’s awesome to see the early steps of their journey into what will hopefully be a successful, new take on streaming.

If you can get over there and take a look, feel free to give us a follow as we’re going to be testing it and reviewing it in the coming months. But follow others, and tell your friends, or sign-up and give it a go! A fresh start in the streaming space is one hell of a prospect. I think I want to be the first Castyr to stream Marvel Snap!
