Nearly a decade after its original release, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands is getting a massive second wind. Ubisoft has officially released Last Rites, a substantial free update for modern consoles that revitalises the tactical military shooter with fresh performance enhancements, deep gameplay customisation, and a dark new story campaign.
For players on modern hardware, the headline addition is the long-awaited performance boost. Last Rites introduces native 4K resolution at 60 FPS on modern consoles, delivering the crispest and smoothest rendering of the Bolivian landscape to date.
A Darker, Cult-Driven Story Mission
At the heart of the update lies a brand-new linear narrative arc in Ghost Recon Wildlands. Ghosts step back into the boots of Nomad to investigate a grim turn of events in a sinister, oppressive region of Bolivia.
The primary target is La Llorona, an untouchable arbiter of vengeance revered almost as a saint by the local populace after being betrayed by those she trusted. Armed with a weeping widow mask and absolute devotion from her followers, she commands Los Penitentes, a fanatical cult united by faith, sacrifice, and violent justice.
As players advance through her territory and unravel audio logs and hidden documents, the mission devolves from a standard tactical incursion into a tense narrative filled with moral ambiguity and betrayal, forcing Nomad to confront his CIA handler, Emily Price, over the dark truths behind the threat.
Unprecedented Sandbox Customisation
Beyond the narrative content, Ubisoft Bordeaux has taken deep inspiration from the game’s dedicated mil-sim and role-playing communities to overhaul player control.
Through the new Ghost Parameters, players can tailor the mechanical rules of their campaign. Options include toggling instant death or infinite revives, restricting loadouts to a single primary weapon, and enabling realistic ammo loss where discarded magazines take remaining bullets with them.
On the World and Session level, players can adjust the time of day, weather, enemy patrol rates, jammer presence, and even friendly fire for hardcore co-op or casual PvP scenarios. Detailed sliders also let squads fine-tune HUD elements, enemy perception, endurance, and vehicle fragility.
Ghost Recon Wildlands is getting this level of update almost ten years after release. This is amazing.
Free Gear, Cosmetics, and Anniversary Extras
Ubisoft is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Ghost Recon franchise with a wave of free unlocks. A massive range of character customisation items, previously unreleased camouflage patterns, and former challenge rewards are now unlocked for everyone without extra cost.
All Ghost War PvP classes are now accessible for free in the in-game store, and players who complete the Last Rites campaign will unlock an exclusive anniversary Operator Skin. Furthermore, the update marks the return of the fan-favourite Predator crossover content.

Ghost Recon Wildlands
We loved Wildlands when it came out but sadly dropped off it quite quickly back in the day. Now it feels prime for PC and Steam Deck play! Ghost Recon Wildlands is an excellent gem of a game, and with this level of update and improvement, we, like everyone else, are excited to get stuck-in again.

Massive credit to Ubisoft, who, let’s be honest need as many wins as possible at the moment. Ghost Recon Wildlands is not only relevant again, but seemingly better than ever before. It’s re-downloading as we write this, and we’ll be starting from scratch for the first time since the game released.
