PlayStation State of Play June 2026

State of Play June 2026

Sony’s latest State of Play delivered a packed, 60-minute broadcast of updates, surprise announcements, and fresh gameplay clips. Giving us a proper look at what is coming next to the PlayStation 5, the showcase featured an excellent mix of long-awaited first-party blockbusters, indie gems, and terrifying horror titles pushing technical boundaries.

With September 2026 shaping up to be absolutely stacked, publishers seem to be moving their heaviest hitters forward to clear a path for major autumn releases. From brutal mutant combat to completely unexpected franchise revivals, here is our full recap of everything announced during the June 2026 State of Play showcase.

Marvel’s Wolverine

Insomniac Games kicked off the State of Play in spectacular fashion with a brutal, action-packed look at Marvel’s Wolverine. The developer treated fans to an extensive look at Logan’s ferocious, claw-based combat, including parries, critical strikes, cinematic set pieces, and a satisfying rage build-up mechanic.

The story trailer also offered a glimpse into the narrative, introducing Logan’s history with the mutant task force Team X. The biggest surprise, however, was the reveal of a powerful, telekinetic Jean Grey as a central character who teams up with Logan to execute devastating combo takedowns against the cybernetic Reavers.

We love the Spider-Man games and have faith in Insomniac to deliver. So this is pretty high on our 2026 list of priority games.

Release Date: 15 September 2026

God of War Laufey Steals the Show

In a massive closing announcement that absolutely no one saw coming, Santa Monica Studio officially unveiled God of War Laufey. Shifting the spotlight away from Kratos and Atreus, this next mainline entry places Kratos’ late wife, Faye (Laufey), right at the centre of the experience.

The narrative begins following her funeral, where she awakens in a strange, mythic afterlife known as the Everywhen. To protect the people she loves, this legendary warrior must fight her way through a realm overflowing with dangerous magic. The trailer teased an entirely fresh approach to combat and mythology, making it an instant highlight of the broadcast.

God of War Ragnarok was a bit of a disappointment, but the previous instalment of the series was excellent. The world of God of War is always stunning and the story full of great character. So we’re optimistic, but cautiously so. A big close-out to the State of Play, sure. But not our most anticipated.

Release Date: In development (PS5)

Control Resonant

Following a brief teaser earlier in the year, Remedy Entertainment used the showcase to drop a brand-new story trailer and an official launch date for Control Resonant.

This highly anticipated sequel places players in control of Dylan Faden as the sole playable protagonist. The setting shifts deep into a completely warped Manhattan, where reality is falling apart, architecture shifts impossibly, and dangerous para-natural entities stalk the streets. Dylan must master his evolving supernatural abilities alongside his shapeshifting weapon, the Aberrant, to survive.

We still haven’t finished the original Control. Will we have time? It’s fun and intriguing, so this is definitely one to watch. Probably not a day-one here though. This State of Play has certainly got Control back on our minds.

Release Date: 24 September 2026

Silent Hill: Townfall

Announcements from Konami and developer No Code revealed a deeply unsettling new trailer for Silent Hill: Townfall.

The brief, highly atmospheric footage teased a genuinely horrific and mind-bending psychological experience. It is safe to say that survival horror fans will have plenty of reasons to stay indoors this autumn.

Silent Hill seems to be having a moment again in recent years, so this is a lovely State of Play announcement for fans of the series. Die-hards can be really critical of the series, so hopefully this one doesn’t land on the wrong side of hope and expectations!

Release Date: 24 September 2026

Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Capcom delighted old-school fans by officially unveiling Onimusha: Way of the Sword, bringing the long-dormant samurai action franchise back for the current generation. Built from the ground up for the PS5, the game focuses on incredibly fast, technical swordplay, massive Sengoku-era environments, and cinematic storytelling. Better yet, a playable demo has launched on the PlayStation Store today.

Capcom are killing it. Between Monster Hunter, Resident Evil and Pragmata, they show no sign of stopping. Onimusha is a great reveal at State of Play and it’s going to have set high expectations for long-time fans. We know Capcom have the drive and their eyes on the prize at the minute, so expect this to do well.

Final Thoughts

With September 2026 completely overflowing with high-profile releases like Marvel’s Wolverine, Control Resonant, and Silent Hill: Townfall, PlayStation players are looking at an incredibly busy—and expensive—autumn.

Of all the massive games announced here, there are plenty of smaller titles getting some spotlight, too which is great. Personally we want to see how “Bancho The Chef” comes out, because that guy is a star in the wonderful Dave the Diver.

All in all it feels like the June 2026 State of Play was pretty solid. But it’s a busy week in gaming, with Summer Games Fest starting today (5th June). There’s potential for all of these to be overshadowed with new info, trailers and release dates for so many more games.

Keep those eyes peeled!
